Mini Mobile Monday Perth: Being Square

Not satisfied with Twitter it would seem, Jack Dorsey started a company called Square that allows anyone to take credit card payments from their mobile phone. It’s now taking the US by storm, and recently Richard Branson invested in the startup. Fortunately for us folk way over here in Perth, one of the guns that Square hired comes from our home town, and he’s happy to have a chat with us on his Christmas trip back home.

Chris Clark, Square’s Interactive Designer, will be in town for one night only (well, technically not, but he’s not in town for long) and will be discussing his adventure in North America where he has been involved in mobile design for the last few years. He’ll discuss some of his more interesting experiences, and impart some of his wisdom.

We’re starting this event at iiNet’s office in Subiaco, and after the presentation we’ll head across to The Village, so please arrive on time as the iiNet office locks the lift and we’ll need to escort people upstairs.

Nokia are making headlines again with some recent announcements about their new Window’s mobile phones, and no one is underestimating the new partnership.

Jem Resimcioglu, Nokia’s Developer Relations Manager for Australia and New Zealand, is flying to Perth to update us on Nokia’s new vision and what their Microsoft partnership means to the mobile industry. Mobile Monday Perth: TigerSpike Case Studies

Our second major MoMoPerth event brings to Perth a company that recently received $11 million investment from Aegis Media.

Oliver Palmer and Zac Jacobs from TigerSpike Sydney and Melbourne will talk about the mobile work they’ve done with some major clients, providing a few case studies on companies such as Woolworths and The Economist. They’ll talk about what went well and what they learnt from things that didn’t go to plan.

We’ll also be holding a panel discussion for everyone to ask our experts a few questions.

Mobile Monday Perth: PayPal Goes Mobile

Perth’s first major MoMoPerth event will cover the latest hot topic of mobile payments.

Paul Buchanan, PayPal’s Head of Mobile Business, will present an overview of how mobile commerce is exploding in Australia. Paul will outline PayPal’s unique perspective on just how much Australians are using their mobiles to make payments and will present some real world examples of how businesses and developers are earning new revenue streams by commercialising their apps and m-sites.
